The Knickerbocker Investigation

Our investigation at The Knickerbocker occurred on 03/15/08. We arrived at approximately 7:30pm. Upon our arrival we met with the owner Peg Knickerbocker. We unloaded our equipment then took a walk throughout the building to gather our baseline readings, get a general “feel” for the place and discuss where we should set up the equipment.

After the walkthrough we sat down with Peg for a brief discussion on what was occurring throughout the hotel.

She explained that the hotel was built in 1882 and was originally called the Arnold House. She told us that the hotel was connected to the adjoining building VIA the “opera room”. Guests would stay at the Arnold House then cross through the building to go to the opera and return after the show was over. The building connection was bricked up sometime in the 1950’s after ownerships of the two buildings changed hands.

Peg did not give us any specifics on what was occurring in different areas of the hotel. She stated that she didn’t want to chance influencing us in any area of our investigation.

She did state that there was round the clock happenings that included bumps, footsteps, voices, full apparitions and being pushed. She also told us that the most active areas in the hotel seemed to be in the rear of the 3^rd floor, the basement, kitchen, and the opera room.

We set the 4 I.R. camera DVR system up in the dining area of the hotel and placed two cameras on the third floor at each end of the building to capture the doorways of all of the rooms. The same was done for the second floor. Also a handheld I.R. camera was placed in the basement.

The investigation began at approx. 10:00 pm and the following equipment was utilized.

4 Infrared camera DVR system, EMF meters, K2 meter, digital cameras, digital voice recorders, hand held mini DV infrared camcorders and infrared thermometers.

During the investigation we gathered 32 hours of video 16 hours of audio and about 800 photos.

All investigators throughout the investigation reported several personal experiences. The personal experiences are as follows.

- Larry reported seeing a shadow move throughout the opera room on the 2^nd floor this occurred at approx 9:15pm.

- While Ryan, Scott and Larry were in a room on the 2^nd floor the K2 meter was used. The group had a question and answer session with an unknown source.

It began when Scott asked the entity to tell us its name and the K2 began to flash signaling an energy increase. And then the lights on the K2 went out.

Scott asked did this used to be your bedroom and again the lights on the K2 began to flash and then went out.

Ryan then asked if that is you making the light come on do whatever it is that you need to do to get it to come on again and the light began flashing again on the K2 meter then went out.

Ryan then asked if you can hear us make the second green light come on and again there was a response to where the two green lights lit up stayed on for about three seconds then went out.

Ryan then asked if you want to talk to us make three lights come on and there was no response.

Ryan then said if you don’t want to talk to us and want us to leave make one light come on and instantly the K2 went to one light.

Ryan then said to confirm that you want us to leave make two lights come on. Prior to finishing the statement two lights on the K2 lit up.

Investigators respected the request and left the room.

- Later in the night Mark was standing outside the same room where the K2 meter was used earlier. He made a comment that he was going to go in the room and all investigators in that area immediately got a very uneasy feeling. Mark then put his digital camera through the door to take a photo and the camera died without warning. No low battery indicator came on prior to the device turning itself off. After the batteries were changed the camera functioned properly.

-Throughout the night voices could be heard throughout different rooms in the hotel and some investigators got very uneasy heavy feelings on the 2^nd and 3^rd floor of the hotel.

-During a break in the night all members were down in the dinning area speaking with the owner and other members of the family when Peg stated that she could sense that Henry, a male child spirit, was in the room.

We gathered our equipment to attempt to catch some type of evidence.

The K2 was placed near Peg and she asked Henry to go play with the machine and on a few occasions the K2 did begin to light up showing that there was some type of energy source moving in the area.

Also some investigators were able to feel a cold spot moving in the area. Nothing on film or photo or recorder was captured during this time.

THE EVIDENCE

This photo was captured was by Scott. This was while on the second floor in the rear area of the hotel. This room has been dubbed “the choking room” The photo was taken at 10:50pm.

Scott attempted several times to recreate this photo by putting his fingers and camera strap in front of the flash but was unable to recreate the mass.

This photo was taken by Mark while in the opera room with Scott and Lindsey. I don’t think that there needs to be much of an explanation, just look in front of the chair.

The photo was captured at 1:49 am.

Mark attempted to recreate the photo due to Scotts leg glowing from the flash to see if that may have caused the anomaly. After several photos it was not able to be recreated.

These photos were taken by the same camera trying to see if it may have been some type of glare or reflection from the jeans. Mark was not able to get his camera to recreate the photo.

This photo was also taken in the opera room by Mark with Lindsey and Scott in the room. It was taken at 1:55am. Again its pretty clear what you are looking at and again its centered around the chair.

Again Mark attempted to reproduce this photo by placing items over the flash but was not able to get any type of black mass to appear.

The following are EVP’s and audio recordings were recorded throughout the hotel during the investigation.

This EVP was captured while on the third floor. It is unknown what or if anything is being said, but it does sound like a female behind Ryan’s voice.

This EVP was also captured on the third floor. Take a listen and let us know what you think. We think we know what is being said but want to hear from you.

This audio recording was also captured on the third floor. You will hear what sound like a female or child then hear Ryan say “do you hear a voice”? We are not sure what is being said in this clip.

This is an EVP from the basement. We don’t think an explanation is needed for this one.

Yet another EVP from the basement. You will hear Ryan mention that the dirt in the basement is soft then another voice. Let us know what you think on this one.

This noise was captured in the basement also. There are no voices. Investigators heard what sounded like someone hammering (building something). The owners of the Knickerbocker stated they have never heard any noises like this and that it was not any machine in the basement making the noise.

On the day of the reveal Scott was taken to the basement and he and the owner attempted to recreate the sound by turning pumps and other machines on but were unable to recreate it.

The final EVP from the basement is an unknown. It sounds as though it is the same voice that we were capturing here but we can not make out what is trying to be communicated.

We did capture one piece of video but our web page layout will not let us load it in its current format. Once we change the format it will be added.

It is our opinion, through everything gathered and experienced at the Knickerbocker that there is no doubt a lot of activity. All investigators had some type of personal experiences and the evidence gathered was more than expected.
